Trying to keep my head above the water

Transitioning from two to three kids at home has been smoother than I thought it would be. The only big difference is that my to-do list keeps getting longer and longer and blogging isn't a very high priority. A couple of weeks ago I added uploaded this pictures, but I never got around to actually posting them. Anyway, here are some newer but not current pictures of Cannon and the older boys.

We convinced my dad to take us out on his boat a few weeks ago and it was a blast. Jaden rode the tube most of day while Logan after a few spins preferred to just ride on the boat and eat snacks. Cannon spent the day sleeping on the land, next summer though he'll get to join in on the fun.

Logan had so much fun that he crashed as soon as we loaded up in the car.

We went to a luau at my uncle's house and they cooked a whole pig. The boys especially Jaden thought it was awesome. Here is my mom reserving her portion on the feast!

Scott's dad had some meetings in Seattle a few weekends ago so we headed over there to spend the weekend with them and Scott's brother's family (who drove up from Portland). We had plans to go to the zoo but when we got to Seattle it was cold and raining. We went ahead and took the kids to the zoo but it was pouring rain most of the time there. The boys didn't seem to mind and luckily there are several exhibits that had shelter.

Jaden before he knew we were taking a picture of him.

Jaden after finding out we were taking his picture.

We love the coast and a trip to Seattle wouldn't be complete without throwing some rocks into the ocean.

Scott, Mark and our friend Doug spent a long time playing a game where the person in the middle throws up a rock and the other two try to hit it with another rock.

Once again Cannon spent most of the time sleeping.

The other day I asked Jaden to hold Cannon while I switched the laundry. When I came to take Cannon back a few minutes later Cannon was asleep. Jaden was so proud of himself and has declared himself to be in charge of naps from now on.

Three weeks in

For as long as pregnancy feels I am always amazed at how quickly time flies by once the baby arrives. Cannon is three weeks old and seems so much bigger already. I took him in for a check up last week and surprisingly his head measured in at only the 42% so I'm not sure what to think about that. Either he has got a lot of growing to do to catch up with his big brothers or the nurse measured wrong. If you can't tell by pictures, my kids have a tendency to have to wear adult size hats by the time they are three.
Now that Jaden and Logan are healthy they fight over who gets to hold Cannon. Jaden has said numerous times that he just loves holding Cannon and he doesn't even care if he cries he just likes to hold him. Logan loves to give him kisses, but we really have to watch him closely since he hasn't quite figured out how to be gentle.

The boys love to pick out Cannon's clothes and then try their best to match him whenever they can.

Cannon is such a good sleeper! There has only been one night since he was born that I had to stay up with him during the night. Other than that he wakes up every 4 hours to eat and goes right back to sleep. I'm crossing my fingers that it never changes!

Jaden also loves to be in charge of burping Cannon. He is such a good big brother I am really going to miss having him around all the time when kindergarten starts up this fall.

Logan is still his Dad's shadow, he follows him around everywhere!

Cannon Dean Holt

We were blessed with our beautiful third baby boy early Thursday morning. Cannon Dean Holt weighed in at 8lbs 3oz and was 20 1/4inches long. We are all absolutely smitten by him and I find myself staring at him all day long. He is a great eater and sleeper and I have been blessed with a quick recovery myself.
The labor and delivery went pretty quick. We got to the hospital at midnight and he was born at 2:42 am. By the time I was able to get an epidural I was already to an 8 and it was only about a half hour after that that I began pushing. The epidural for some reason only worked on the right side of my body and had no effect on the left...weird, but still better than nothing.
Cannon was born with the cord around his neck twice and with a knot in the cord. We feel very blessed that everything turned out well and we were able to bring home a perfect little baby boy. My first thought when I saw him was that he looked just like Logan. The next day he looked just like Jaden and now he looks like both of them!

Proud brothers!

Jaden was extremely excited about the arrival of his newest little brother. When he was holding him he said, "I don't know why but I have tears in my eyes." Jaden is the sweetest little boy and will be (and is) a great example for his little brothers.

Our first family picture.

Cannon gave gifts to the boys when we got home from the hospital. The older boys wondered how he got them and how he knew what they would like.

Jaden has been really sick these past couple of days and hasn't been able to go near the baby, which has been sad for all of us. He says that we he gets better he is going to hold Cannon all day long.

Logan is adjusting pretty well. He loves Cannon but he doesn't want Scott to hold the baby at all. If Scott does then Logan, who is a huge Daddy's boy, cries for Scott to hold him instead. It will take some time for that to go away I am afraid. He does love playing with all the baby things he is finding around the house now.

He is just so adorable!!!

Cousins

We have had such a fun couple of weeks playing with all of our Hatfield side cousins. I wasn't very good however at taking very many pictures of all the exciting things they did. I'll blame that one on being extremely pregnant, since I got several pictures on the day or two after Cannon was born.
All the kids spent an afternoon at Kid's Castle, an indoor playground here in Yakima. It was here that I began to suspect that the baby was going to be coming very soon (and he did later that night) so I was glad to have the kids able to run and entertain themselves for three straight hours.

The kids all love the show Wipeout that ABC airs during the summer. I told my brother Derek that he was in charge of creating a wipeout zone for the kids to do. I was planning on helping him, but had a baby instead.

Jaden was so excited about it and took it very seriously. He insisted on wearing a life vest just like they do on tv. This is him banging on his chest before it was his turn to go through the obstacle course.

Logan's turn

After the kids were done the adult men took a turn in the wipeout zone. It was hilarious to watch and I was able to get most of it on film which the boys have already watched many times.
