Catching Up

I've been meaning to post pictures of Jaden's actual birthday for awhile but it seems like I never had the time. However, looking back I can't really think of too much going on that would have occupied my time. Since we had a bigger party at my parents house we didn't do too much on Jaden's birthday. We took him to Old McDonald's for lunch (I'm pretty sure he thinks that the song is referring to the golden arches.) We had a little party for him at home when Scott got off work and Jaden was able to open his big gift which was a bike. Unfortunately it was pouring rain that night so he didn't get to go outside and ride it. That night he woke up sick with the stomach flu and was out of commission for several days. This past week Jaden was able to go out and ride his bike around. He's still trying to get the hang of it, he just crashes into things rather than use the brakes.

My parents and Heather came over to see us this weekend and we discovered a great place to take the boys fishing. You simply had to cast your line out about 10 feet and you would have a bite within a minute or two. Jaden has a kid's pole that we got for a dollar at goodwill last year so we pleasantly surprised to find that it actually works and we were able to catch several fish with it.

Ditching the fishing to go play in the dirt.

Yesterday we went for our first family bike ride of the year. Logan left his helmet on for about a minute and a half, we'll shoot for 2 solid minutes next time.

Feels good to be a Prankster

So Jaden starred in his first rap video this past weekend. My brother Chad made this video for Mother's Day. I think it's pretty dang cute!

My little boy turns 3!

Jaden's birthday is on Tuesday so we decided to go to my parent's house for the weekend to have an early party for Jaden and to spend Mother's Day with my mom. If you can't tell from the picture, it was a fireman themed party. I had envisioned a cake with flames coming out of it, the actual outcome didn't quite live up with what I had in my head, but Jaden still loved it.

Logan had a good time helping Jaden with his gifts.

At our grocery store here they always have a bunch of pinatas near the checkout and I had talked to Jaden about having one for his birthday. A couple of days before the party I decided that rather then fork out the money to buy one I would just make a pinata instead. I figured that Jaden would remember us making one together and enjoy it more if it were homemade, plus it would be easier to break for a 3 year old. Paper mache is really easy but I did forget how long it takes. You have to do several layers and it took forever for those layers to dry. I had to whip out my blow dryer on several occasions to speed the process up. I wanted to make a ball of fire but like the cake it didn't exactly turn out like I had envisioned.

Like all good pinatas it broke off the string before it cracked open so Jaden and Jackson used their bats to break it open on the ground.

Mother's day was great. I'm very lucky to be the mother of two amazing boys.

My grandma is awesome. She is 90 years old and has been watching Days of Our Lives religiously for as long as I can remember. Recently they added a new character, Dr. Jonas that my grandma has developed a little, no make that huge crush on. She really does talk about him all the time, it's pretty funny. For Mother's day I photoshopped a picture of her with him and framed it for her as a joke. I couldn't have asked for a better reaction when she opened it up. She absolutely loved it!

Jaden thinks that it's so funny that some cars don't have tops on them and makes a big deal out of it every time we drive past a convertible. While we were in Yakima for the weekend we made sure that he was able to go for a ride with Grandpa. It was kinda cold but he still thought it was "amazingly cool" - his term for everything these days.

Utah Trip

Scott was gone last week to North Carolina for some meetings so the little boys and I tagged along with my parents on a trip to Utah. One of these days we are going to start actually taking trips together, there's an idea. It was a long time to be away from home but they boys did pretty well and we all had a great time.

On Sunday we decided to head up to Salt Lake. My parents went to the tabernacle choir performance. Since they didn't allow kids in I walked over to Scott's grandparents apartment who are serving a mission there. Afterwards we walked around temple square. It had been a long time since I'd been there and it was as gorgeous as ever.

As I'm posting this I'm realizing that just about every picture of me dressed up on this blog I'm wearing this dress. So just in case you were wondering I do own and wear other dresses.

What do you think he had in mind here?

Logan was content to observe it all kicked back in the stroller.

Up up and away

Jaden was able to try out a climbing wall this past weekend and loved it. It seems crazy that he is still only 2 years old! What happened to my little boy?!

Our Morning

Jaden has been begging to go to McDonalds since we moved here. We have to drive past those golden arches every time we leave the house and he has been aching to go. I told him several days ago that I would take him on Tuesday while Daddy was gone if he was a good boy. Every morning noon and night since then he was been asking if it was tuesday yet or if we could just got early.
Finally Tuesday arrived and I told him that today was the day as long as he listened to mommy. Within 5 minutes of being out of bed as I was getting breakfast started I hear Logan screaming to which Jaden quickly admitted to biting him. I gave Jaden a warning that if he hurts his brother again we don't get to go to McDonalds. We made it through breakfast fine but when I got out of the shower I found Jaden holding the swifter and appearing to mop Logan's head. Logan wasn't crying so I let it slide with another warning. I should have picked up by this point not to leave the boys alone today, but I guess I'm a slow learner. When I came by a few minutes later from blow drying my hair I find Logan with two huge welts on his forehead. I asked Jaden what happened and he said that he scratched him (on purpose). This is one part of parenting that I really hate...having to stick to your words. I had to tell Jaden that McDonalds was a no go today.
As I'm trying to settle Jaden down during his obvious melt down because this is all he has wanted to do for days we had his little conversation.

Jaden: Why can't we go?
Me: You know why, you tell me why we don't get to go today?
Jaden: I'll tell you why we SHOULD go.
Me: Why
Jaden: Because they are making kids meals. They are going to say Jaden and I won't be there. That doesn't sound very nice. Do you think that sounds very nice mommy?!

It was quite an eventful morning for only being out bed for about an hour. He doesn't get to go to the playland, Logan got beat up, and I now have to come up with something for dinner. It's a lose/lose/lose situation. Just for the record I'm not the meanest mom in the world, I will take him tomorrow.

Nothing but time

Scott is in California this week and both kids were down by 7, it is so rare to have so much time to myself that I'm not really sure what to do. I'm really wishing that I would have had the forethought to check out a book at the library, guess I can still do that tomorrow. Any recommendations?

We met with a realtor on Saturday and looked at several houses. Based upon what we saw we are currently leaning towards renting another year. We have been told that since this is a college town when school gets out next month several more houses should go on the market. Pullman is small so there aren't a ton of choices and so far we have only seen houses that either nearly 100 years old or are new but were built quickly/cheaply. We were left wondering what happened to all the houses built between 1940 and 2005, because we didn't see any?!

Yesterday it was beautiful outside - 80 degrees and blue skies. Today it snowed.

Jaden is usually pretty insistent that we put his basketball hoop up high, but the other day he was loving having it down low so he could practice his dunking. Don't you love the bright green paint in the toy room? Have I mentioned that our bedroom is purple?
